The Austin-Healey brand released its first production car in 1953. Later, in 1958, the Sprite—nicknamed the “Frogeye†(or “Bugeyeâ€)—was introduced as a sports car aimed at younger drivers.
Equipped with a BMC (British Motor Corporation) engine producing 42.5 horsepower and weighing only 602 kg, the Sprite delivered impressive performance for its lightweight class.
To meet North American safety regulations, the headlights were placed prominently atop the bonnet. Combined with its upturned grille, the car takes on a charming, smiling appearance full of personality.
