“The Range Rover Classics is a 4x4, mid-size luxury Sports utility vehicle series produced initially by the Rover (later Land Rover) division of British Leyland and latterly the Rover Group from 1970 to 1996. The first generation of vehicles produced under the Range Rover name debuted as a 2-door; a 4-door became available in 1981, with the 2-door phased out in January 1994. For most of its history, it was known simply as the "Range Rover"; Land Rover coined the term "Range Rover Classic" to distinguish it from the P38A, which succeeded it when the two were built, briefly, alongside, and applied the name retrospectively to all first-generation Range Rovers.â€
It was available in a 3-door body, and the 5-door body appeared on the marked in 1981. Seven engines (gas and diesel) and 4 transmissions (2 manual and 2 automatic) were available over the production cycle.
